A Deeper Dive into the Memorandum of Understanding to Support Nuclear Research Collaboration

On January 16, 2026, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC), and the Global Institute for Energy, Minerals and Society Inc. (GIEMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a formal framework for collaboration in nuclear energy research, technology evaluation, and capacity building.

The framework identifies several areas where the parties may explore collaboration, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and advanced reactor technologies, nuclear plant efficiency and operational reliability, radioactive waste management, workforce and skills development, technology transfer and innovation adoption, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in nuclear technologies.

Saskatchewan to Host Canada’s First Executive Nuclear Energy Management School

The University of Saskatchewan will host the Canadian Executive Nuclear Energy Management School (Executive NEMS) from June 8–13, 2026, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

 

This marks the first executive-level nuclear energy management program offered in Canada — bringing together senior Canadian and international leaders to strengthen understanding of nuclear energy infrastructure, regulatory readiness, advanced and small modular reactors, and leadership for new and expanding nuclear programs.

 

Applications are open until March 17, 2026.

Today, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance collaboration and partnership in mining and energy.
