Western Canada Nuclear Energy Talent Hub

Building connections across Western Canada to strengthen the education, training, and institutional capacity needed to support an emerging nuclear energy sector.

Connecting Western Canada’s Nuclear Capacity

Western Canada has expertise and capabilities relevant to nuclear energy across post-secondary institutions, industry, utilities, and government. The Talent Hub was established to strengthen connections across this ecosystem and explore where greater coordination can support emerging education, training, and capacity needs.

The initiative creates a forum to identify shared priorities, connect expertise across jurisdictions, and consider opportunities where a coordinated Western Canadian approach can add value.

Connect expertise.

Identify shared needs.

Explore opportunities.

From Discussion to Collaboration

An initial workshop in Calgary brought together representatives from academia, industry, utilities, and government to explore shared needs, existing capabilities, and opportunities for greater coordination across Western Canada.

Discussions identified education and training, outreach, regulatory and legal considerations, and nuclear safety as areas where further collaboration could add value. These early discussions continue to inform how the Talent Hub may develop.

GIEMS’ Role

GIEMS participates in the Talent Hub as a project partner, contributing Saskatchewan perspectives and connections to the broader initiative. GIEMS is supporting the safety focus area, with an emphasis on strengthening institutional knowledge related to nuclear safety, licensing, and regulatory readiness.
